Ronald McDonald House

Just before Thanksgiving we had a youth service project at the Ronald McDonald house at the Pittsburgh Children's Hospital. What a great opportunity to serve in our community. Both the Children's Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House are also recipients of books from Taylor's Eagle Project.

It was good to see how tender and compassionate our youth can be. I saw one of our young men wipe tears from his eyes several times. He was especially touched when one of the young girls was sharing with us that she enjoyed staying there with her family, but all the friends she made kept leaving. Hopefully most were left for home after a successful stay.

It was especially emotional that day. A young man named Austin came to decorate cookies with us. My cousin's son Austin had passed away on November 11. Fortunately the youth were so involved I was able to stay on the periphery and just enjoy the sweet spirit that was there.

Hannah isn't quite old enough for YW, but a few of us brought our families with us. I'm grateful that she is able to have lots of good memory making opportunities and do things that sometimes take us out of our comfort zone.
