Thanksgiving in Nebraska

About a week before Thanksgiving we started talking about how nice it would be to go home for Thanksgiving. What started as a "wouldn't it be nice", tuned into a "well maybe we could", developed into a "maybe we should" and evolved into "let's do it!"

We soon realized plane tickets were a bit pricey so we prepared for a good old fashioned road trip. The closer the trip got the more anxious we were to go. The original plan was to leave Wednesday after school. Then we thought we might let Hannah go for part of the day. If we left earlier in the morning we could get there late Wednesday instead of Thursday. You know how it is, they don't really do much at school the day before a holiday. Well if we could leave early Wednesday morning, then why not Tuesday after school. What the heck, let's pack the car Tuesday morning and surprise Hannah and check her out of school after lunch and hit the road.

After looking at three different routes we decided to take the southern route.  We traveled through Columbus, Ohio, on through Indianapolis, Indiana and finally stopped for the night in Springfield, Missouri or maybe it was Illinois.  We awoke early the next morning and we arrived at home right about lunch time.

Our trip began in Pennsylvania, we caught the corner of West Virginia, crossed both Ohio and Indiana, then Illinois and Missouri, visited Iowa briefly and finally made it to Nebraska.

All too soon it was time to reverse the order and is if it were all a dream we were back at home.

We had our favorite family meal, Navajo tacos enjoyed the traditional turkey dinner with very few leftovers, went to the Spaghetti factory and finished the holiday with good for you homemade soup in three varieties.

At times it was a bit crazy with eight kids under three and one six year old.  Hannah was in baby heaven.

We've been wondering how the Prine clan is doing. Glad you got to go home for a visit. 8 kids under 3?!! Is that from all of your siblings? They've been busy!!
